Vampires v Gargoyles

Dark Castle

For the past few weeks I’ve been dividing my time between two works in progress. One is virtually ready for publishing. The other is still in the process of being written.

Moving between Victorian smogs and bloodsucking vampires is quite a challenge.

“A Gathering of Gargoyles” is the fifth book in the series “The Adventures of Letty Parker” set once again in my alternative Victorian Bristol it focuses on the dragons and gargoyles of the city. Both sets of creatures are to be found on the roofs of churches and houses, some dragons even take on the guise of doorknockers, but at night, they come to life. The dragons seek out the “’nappings, slittings and slayings” that happen in the dark places of the city and bring back tales of blood and gore to the waiting gargoyles.

The other book, number three in the series of the “Awesome Adventures of Poppy and Amelia” is set in the present day. This time the apprentice witches and their friends tangle with the world of vampires.

Moving from one world to another is a little like travelling from one country to another. There are times when I have to be careful that one doesn’t overlap into the other and that Letty’s voice doesn’t intrude into the contemporary world of mobiles and google, where messages are sent on the internet and not in the claws, or the minds of small dragons made of lead.

Now that the final proofs for “A Gathering of Gargoyles” have been approved I’ll be in marketing mode and you’ll be hearing a lot more about Letty and her world, while at the same time the vampires will be taking over my computer as Poppy and Amelia fly north for their next adventure.
